Genetic testing experiences in India
This is the project I am most proud of. The image to the left represents some results from a research project I conducted in New Delhi, India in 2014.
I designed the project to investigate the experiences of mothers of children with autism in India. Specifically, I spent time with and interviewed women whose children had autism and a genetic diagnosis that was thought to cause autism.
This was the largest and most challenging project I've ever conducted. First, I designed the project based on an in depth review of literature related to the topic and wrote multiple successful grants to fund the project. I then conducted the project over a 4 month period in New Delhi, meeting all of my participant enrollment goals and developing powerful relationships along the way. Upon my return home, I processed and analyzed all the data and composed a manuscript detailing the findings. 6 months later I returned to Delhi and presented the work at a conference hosted by the NGO that helped facilitate the project.
